Who you are and who you will become?

(Mark 8:34) Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.

(Galatians 3:26) So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith,

1. Deny yourself but don’t lose yourself
(Mark 8:34/The Voice) If anyone of you wants to follow me, you will have to give yourself up to God’s plan, take up your cross, and do as I do.

(Mark 8:35-36) For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?

2. In order to become the best “you”, the “you”God wants
A. The foundation of who you are now determines the limit of your life
(1 Corinthians 15:10) But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.

(1 Corinthians 3:10-13) By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work.

B. Don’t be settled with who you think you are now
(Psalm 135:17-18)They have ears, but cannot hear, nor is there breath in their mouths. Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them.

(Proverbs 23:7a/AKJM) For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.

C. God will change our circumstances to change us
(Matthew 5:4-5/The Message) “You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you. “You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are—no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought.

(1 Corinthians 12:27) Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

Identity – Who Am I?

Who Does God Say You Are?

1.Mighty Hero
(Judges 6:11-12/NLT) Then the angel of the Lord came and sat beneath the great tree at Ophrah, which belonged to Joash of the clan of Abiezer. Gideon son of Joash was threshing wheat at the bottom of a winepress to hide the grain from the Midianites. The angel of the Lord appeared to him and said, “Mighty hero, the Lord is with you!”

2.Full Of Potential
(1 Corinthians 2:9-10/The Message) No one’s ever seen or heard anything like this, Never so much as imagined anything quite like it- What God has arranged for those who love him. But you’ve seen and heard it because God by his Spirit has brought it all out into the open before you.

(2 Corinthians 5:17/NLT) This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

3.His Children
(2 Corinthians 6:17-18/The Message) “I’ll live in them, move into them; I’ll be their God and they’ll be my people. So leave the corruption and compromise; leave it for good,” says God. “Don’t link up with those who will pollute you. I want you all for myself. I’ll be a Father to you; you’ll be sons and daughters to me.” The Word of the Master, God.

(Ephesians 4:1/NLT) Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.

My Jesus – Zacchaeus’ Story

(Luke 19:1-10/The Message) Then Jesus entered and walked through Jericho. There was a man there, his name Zacchaeus, the head tax man and quite rich. He wanted desperately to see Jesus, but the crowd was in his way—he was a short man and couldn’t see over the crowd. So he ran on ahead and climbed up in a sycamore tree so he could see Jesus when he came by. When Jesus got to the tree, he looked up and said, “Zacchaeus, hurry down. Today is my day to be a guest in your home.” Zacchaeus scrambled out of the tree, hardly believing his good luck, delighted to take Jesus home with him. Everyone who saw the incident was indignant and grumped, “What business does he have getting cozy with this crook?” Zacchaeus just stood there, a little stunned. He stammered apologetically, “Master, I give away half my income to the poor—and if I’m caught cheating, I pay four times the damages.” Jesus said, “Today is salvation day in this home! Here he is: Zacchaeus, son of Abraham! For the Son of Man came to find and restore the lost.”

1. Called By Name
(Isaiah 49:1/NLT) Listen to me, all you in distant lands! Pay attention, you who are far away! The Lord called me before my birth; from within the womb he called me by name.

2. Friend of Sinners
(Mark 2:17/NLT) When Jesus heard this, he told them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.”

(Romans 3:23-24/NLT) For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.

3. Saved for Something Great
(Ephesians 2:10/NLT) For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
